The Crusader Arms Backland Hunter combines the familiar handling, reliability, and versatility of a traditional shotgun platform with the performance of a modern ranch-style semi-automatic rifle. Designed for hunting, sport shooting, and target shooting, the Backland Hunter offers a practical, lightweight design built for dependable performance in the field.

Inspired by the proven Benelli M4 operating system, the Backland Hunter utilizes a similar bolt carrier and strut assembly that cycles into a spring-loaded buffer tube to absorb recoil and return the bolt carrier to position. Chambered in .223/5.56 NATO ammunition, offering versatility for different shooting applications.

To reduce overall weight without sacrificing functionality, Crusader Arms incorporates a direct gas impingement system rather than a traditional piston system. The rifle also features a Benelli M4-style trigger and stock, providing familiar ergonomics and comfortable handling.

An optics-ready, full-length top rail allows shooters to customize their setup with their preferred optics. The unique two-piece receiver is proprietary to the Backland Hunter and is not compatible with other rifle platforms. Ships with six of the Crusader Arms proprietary, dual sided magazines.
